Forecasting Serial Events – (CMAP) Course – Erie County
The Office of Public Safety is pleased to announce a five day “Forecasting Serial Events” course on February 8-12, 2010 in Albany County and March 22-26, 2010 in Erie County
The Forecasting Serial Events course is appropriate for those who have substantial experience using ArcGIS and are interested in learning more in-depth techniques to apply to
tactical or operational crime analysis. This course will provide analysts several fresh and sophisticated ways to analyze data towards the goal of intelligence lead deployment of resources and geographic profiling to develop suspects based on geographic characteristics of predatory humans. This class will be taught using the US Department of Justice CMAP (Crime Mapping & Analysis Program) curriculum, with significant enhancements. This is the third training class in the CMAP Training Curriculum, however completion of the first two classes, Introduction to Crime Mapping and Analysis using ArcGIS 9.3, and Intermediate Crime Mapping and Analysis Using ArcGIS 9.3 are not a prerequisite to attend this course.
Please note that priority will be given to Crime Analysts and Field Intelligence Officers for this course. Due to the hands-on nature of the training, enrollment for the class is limited. Therefore, you must receive confirmation on attendance. Please fax back the application enclosed. Please have the application sent no later than the date specified.

Tools for Tolerance for Supervising Line Staff
Both command and line-level personnel often remark that one of the most influential groups of people in an agency is the first-line supervisor. They have the ability to influence how policies and procedures are perceived and applied. However, first-line supervisors also find themselves in the unenviable position of being sandwiched between the great expectations of leadership and perceptions of power and accountability from subordinates. As new leaders, they have to forge different relationships with individuals who used to be colleagues within an environment of limited authority. The first-line supervisor is an extremely challenging position. This presentation assists supervisors to gain expertise in certain leadership skills and to infuse those skills in a para-military organizational structure.
The objectives of this program include: Identifying the structural and personal challenges inherent in the position, Emphasizing the role of character in leadership, Examining the differences between ego and self-esteem, Understanding the role of popularity in leadership, and Having an opportunity to practice new skills through roleplay.
