The NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services and the NYS Office of Mental Health are pleased to announce the 2009 training schedule for the Police Mental Health Recruit Curriculum. This course provides instructor level training to those individuals wishing to become a certified police mental health instructor. The trainings will be held in March 2009 in Utica, May 2009 in Plattsburgh and September 2009 in Jamestown, NY.
This training is designed to be co-presented by a law enforcement instructor and a mental health instructor in a team approach. It will include extensive role-playing of typical situations encountered by police involving persons experiencing an emotional disturbance. All registrants should be prepared to practice role-playing in this program and to conduct role-plays in local recruit training.
Local police academies are encouraged to share this announcement with their local county Mental Health agencies. All instructors who become certified as a result of this training will be able to assist at the academy and with other mental health trainings.
Those wishing to attend must have completed a MPTC Certified Instructor Development Course or its equivalent or have an advanced degree in the mental health field.
