AMBER Alert and DCJS Missing Child/College Student Alert Quick Reference

The DCJS Missing and Exploited Children Clearinghouse is pleased to provide you with the new “AMBER Alert and DCJS Missing Child/College Student Alert Quick Reference” card. This new resource was developed for law enforcement after collaboration amongst the New York State AMBER Alert law enforcement partners consisting of the DCJS Missing and Exploited Children Clearinghouse, New York State Police, New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, and the New York State Sheriffs’ Association. It is intended for distribution to any law enforcement officer, supervisor or investigator who may be a first responder to a missing child case.

The front of the card provides a “snapshot” of Alert activation criteria and initial steps. The reverse side outlines basic assessment and investigative considerations. When printed at 75%, it prints very legibly as a 3.5″ x 8″ card, which is slightly smaller than a standard ticket book holder.

An Adobe Acrobat version of this card is attached for review and downloading. It can also be downloaded in Acrobat format through eJusticeNY (from within eJusticeNY, click on the “Law Enforcement Services” tab and then on the “Missing Children” link).

Other documents available through eJusticeNY for law enforcement include the “New York State AMBER Alert Program: Program Brief and Law Enforcement Guide,” the “New York State Missing Person Data Collection Guide,” and the “New York State Unidentified Person Data Collection Guide.”

If you have any questions, please contact the New York State DCJS Missing and Exploited Children Clearinghouse at 1-800-FIND-KID or via email at missingchildren@dcjs.state.ny.us.
