Gang Prosecution Techniques Training Course

The Middle Atlantic-Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network (MAGLOCLEN), the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, the Albany Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office (Northern District of NY) have announced a course titled “Gang Prosecution Techniques” to be conducted May 21-23, 2008 in Albany.  The class is restricted to criminal justice agency personnel.

The goal of this course is to provide experienced investigators, prosecutors, and probation and corrections personnel with the knowledge and tools to “attack” organized criminal street gangs using a multi-agency, multijurisdictional approach. The concepts taught in this course have been used to effectively dismantle organized criminal street gangs and take back communities that had been previously controlled by these gangs.  The course highlights specialized investigative techniques and concepts that have been used to successfully dismantle criminal street gangs that were previously unstoppable by traditional law enforcement techniques.  Emphasis is placed upon charging all criminal activities committed by members of the organization in one Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organization Act (RICO) indictment.  In conjunction with this, Continuing Criminal Enterprise (CCE) and Hobbs Act elements are discussed as a means to enumerate all offenses in one RICO indictment.  Additionally, a series of practical exercises will be utilized to demonstrate how to prepare for a case funding request as well as the submission and presentation of a RICO case to the court. Students are encouraged, but not required, to bring a laptop computer to the class for use during the practical exercises.

Please review the attached flyer for directions on registering for this class through MAGLOCLEN.  Click “here.”

Our List Serve

Their has been some confusion from several members regarding our list serve, so I thought this is a good time to make a post about it.

Once you are subscribed, you can send a message to all subscribers by sending a email to members@letdanys.org – once you do that, ALL subscribers get a copy of that email. If someone replies, ALL subscribers get a copy of that reply. It’s great collective communication system.

Subscribers are limited to the membership only.

A common problem is that someone will subscribe with one email address and try to send email with another address, and the system security will reject that.

We feel the list serve is the most under utilzed internet tool we have, so we therefore urge members to subscribe and please feel free to make a post announcing yourself.

Just remember …

1) Subscribe – enter your name, email address and pick any password you want – - you will get a confirmation email sent to you once I check your email address against the members list and I validate your subscription. That will take up to 24 hours.

2) After you get a confirmation message, send a introduction/test message to members@letdanys.org to get a feel for how things work.

See you there and I hope you make use of this great feature.
